Casa Perla Mar

Brett and Deanna are very accommodating. They are only a phone call or email away for them to send one of their workers to fix anything that might go wrong. The beach is almost private, there are so few people in the area. When we go in January/February, the weather is ideal. The water temperature is 85°. The waves are fantastic to play in. There is sunshine every day. I cannot say enough about it. We like to rent both apartments so that one of us can have a private place to work. We love to walk on the beach, barefoot in the ocean to Samara which takes about 25 minutes. This is our second time staying in the house and we have already made reservations to visit again next year.

Playa Samara

Literally steps from the beach!! Walking distance (along the beach) to the main tourist area where you can get surf lessons, go horseback riding or just sit and have a drink. We had 2 couples staying very comfortably in our own little apartments, each with their own kitchens and seating areas. The bedrooms are air conditioned and very comfortable. The patio area is large and wonderful to sit on (or swing on in a hammock) and watch the sunset. Another bonus is the outdoor shower to wash off after playing at the beach. Private and relaxing, we loved our stay here!

A Piece of Heaven

If you are looking for the best beach house deal in Samara, this is your place! I stayed at Brett’s house along with 5 friends for a long 3 day weekend and it was perfect. For the price and location you can not beat it. The beach is literally right out your front door and for the most part you have that section of beach all to yourself. All of the restaurants and nightclubs of Samara are a lovely 15 minute-ish walk on the beach. The house is far enough away to give you privacy and to not hear the club nightlife, yet close enough to enjoy all the amenities of Samara without a car. The house itself has everything you need; well stalked kitchens (2), towels, great outdoor and indoor hangout spaces, spacious bathrooms (2), A.C., fans, and plenty of beds for 6-8 people. As group we have collectively been to Samara a dozen or so times and we all agree that this was by FAR the best place we have stayed! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing home.

Owner’s Response:
Pam, I’m very glad my home worked out so well for all of you. I was anxious to hear about your stay, since you’re one of the first VRBO clients I have had. Your comments are precious, thank you! Of course I look forward to you returning next year. I realize I’m lucky to have this prime location, and it’s great to offer it to people like you who appreciate it. Muchas Gracias!

Great Stay in Costa Rica!

The house was amazing and very cozy to stay in during our 5 day trip to Costa Rica. I would recommend this house to anyway traveling to the area. The town has plenty of shopping and nightlife and is only about a 15 minute walk down the beach from the house. The views from the balcony and the porch are breathtaking. You can go out of the gate right on to the beach and walk down to the ocean. The best part for me was how helpful Brett was with everything we needed for our trip. He recommended places to rent a car from, where to exchange money, and how to get our cell phones to connect. It was like having a trip planner and a house rental all in one. My wife and I will be looking to stay here in the future whenever we go back to Costa Rica. Thanks for a beautiful, relaxing, carefree vacation, Brett!

Owner’s Response:
Thanks Kyle, glad you enjoyed your stay! It was my pleasure with travel tips. I hope you return in the near future!

Relaxing, has everything

We recently stayed at the house and found it to be so clean and close to town. Walking on the beach daily is so easy, just walk out the back gate and your there. We have several people stop by during the day to inquire about the home. Brett and Melissa we always available by text or email. The walk to town will eliminate the necessity for a car, although we had one to explore farther. We rode horseback and used ATV through the area, what a blast. The food was good at all of the places in town. The interent went out due to a storm but was quickly fixed. I would recommend a stay at this house, remember location, location, location. We had 6 couples for 5 days and 2 couples the entire time of 8 days. The A/C sure came in handy and made sleeping enjoyable. Opening the windows in the living room made for a nice breeze through the house. 2 outdoor showers were used to keep the sand out of the house. We will be booking again for another relaxing stay.

Owner’s Response:
Hey Dwight, I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. It was a pleasure having you there. Maybe next time I’ll be down at the same time and we can take a trip to the nearby coffee farm. I’m glad your whole trip was a success, including getting a good view of Arenal Volcano. Thanks for speaking with curious people on the beach on how they can rent the house. Pura vida!

December 2015

Wow, everything about this place was amazing! The house is on the sand, with a warm ocean steps away. The water is beautiful and perfect for a refreshing dip anytime of day or night. The town is close enough to walk to for lunch at a beachfront restaurant, but far enough away that it’s very quiet and private. An awesome place to stay! Brett was so helpful with information and his property manager in Samara was so sweet! We’ll be back 🙂

Perfect trip

This villa was fantastic in every sense. From the location right on the beach to the amenities of the villa itself it was a bargain. The owner was great with communication about the villa and shared many great ideas of what to do while in the area. We will definitely be staying here if we travel to Samara again.

The best Sunsets in Samara

We just spent a week in this wonderful little beach town, enjoying our stay so much we were not ready to leave. The house is very nice and has everything you need right there. We loved the location as well, close enough to walk to town but in a quiet little neighborhood right on the beach. We could swim right out front and the sunsets each night were amazing. Some of the places advertise sunsets but not like we could see from the house. We loved everything about Samara and our stay. A place we will return too. Thank you Brett for sharing this wonderful spot.

We love Casa Perla Mar!

This was our second stay at Casa Perla Mar at Playa Samara, and we love it! The house itself, is great! Perfect for us! The house is always clean, and there is everything you need in the kitchen, even though we prefer to eat most meals in town. The house is in a great spot, right on the beach and just a short walk from town. That means lots of privacy, which is perfect, and only about 10-15 min walk down the beach to Samara, where you will find great food choice, grocery store, banks, souvenir shops, etc. We love to spend time in the hammock on the patio, or on the beach and in the water!! The rental agents are fantastic, and if we need anything, all we have to do is call. Brett has been nothing short of fantastic! He appreciates knowing how he can make his property better. He added screens to the doors, so a nice cross breeze goes through the house. It is always clean and well cared for! Thanks for everything, Brett, hope to visit Costa Rica again!

“My favorite vacation ever.” – Quote from our son.

We did lots of research before finding this house. When we found it, I thought there had to be a catch. In that area of Costa Rica, even the hotels are not on the beach. They advertise “5 minute walk to the beach!” or “Only 300 meters to the beach!”. What you see in Brett’s photos is even more impressive in person. The house is ON the beach, and far enough away from the tourist areas that, during this busy spring break week (the airport was packed with Americans) we felt like we had a private beach. A beautiful beach, with a view of the island, and amazing sunsets every night, all to ourselves. The water is safe, our kids swam and body-surfed every free minute, while I fly-fished in the surf for snook. They chased hermit crabs and geckos every night, then passed out, exhausted and happy. It was perfect.

There are 5 of us and the house had more than enough space. It’s very, very clean, and has everything we needed. The hot water works. The AC in the bedrooms works. Both kitchens had anything we needed. The beautiful patio is where we ate breakfast and a few lazy dinners, looking out at the ocean. The kids would fight over the hammock. For two dinners we walked to the nearby pescaderia (ask Melissa or David how to find it) and grilled what they had fresh.

We didn’t rent a car, Melissa reco’d a shuttle service to/from the airport which was very reasonable. We took a beautiful 15 minute stroll down the beach into town for our surf classes, or when we wanted a meal out or some Caipirinha cocktails (for mom and dad) and fresh-fruit smoothies (for the kids). There are great restaurants in town, and not a single chain business (other than the Pali grocery). Samara is small, charming, and still very ‘Tico’. The Costa Rican people were as friendly as we’d heard. We booked a couple excursions, which picked us up at the house.

I read one reviewer who complained about the interior of the house. I can’t imagine driving through some of the neighborhoods we saw in CR– seeing how so many people live, happily, with a Pura Vida attitude while in near poverty– and then complaining about Brett’s truly fantastic house. This isn’t a luxury all-inclusive golf resort, and that’s why we loved it. It’s an awesome beach house. Brett and his property managers were incredibly helpful, every step, and very prompt and responsive to my many, many emails, both prior to our arrival and while we were there. Thanks Brett, we’ll be back!
